TAKE CHILDREN SERIOUSLY

a senior project.

I have been told that once you graduate high school, you really feel as if your childhood is over.

the following is what I produced when given the opportunity to explore this.

The Process:

in high school, I’d seen again and again how parents often didn’t take their child’s words seriously when it came to mental and physical health issues.

I wanted to find a way to emphasize the importance of listening to children when they voiced their thoughts, fears, and hopes.

whether it comes from a “mother knows best” attitude or a lack of trust in their inexperience, real issues that children and teens are struggling with can be swept away and diminished.

STEP 1: MAKE

After I’d come up with the phrase, I sketched a design in my notebook. Then I brought it into Photoshop and eventually used Cricut software to print it out.

STEP 2: LEARN

I had to learn how to screen-print (and what supplies were needed).

STEP 3: PRINT

Finally, I hand printed all of the sweatshirts in my garage!

The Photoshoot

a ton of friends I love

who ran around under the sunset

  • Don't perceive children's ignorance as stupidity

  • There is often way more going on in their lives than we know

  • We owe it to them to put a bit more trust in them

  • What happens when you stop and listen?
